Jazzy Sunday - Vuma Levin Quintet
Join me for this lovely jazzy Sunday afternoon downtown Amsterdam.
This is the last minute call. The door opens at 17.00!
I'll be coming directly from a hike, therefore, I might be later back in Amsterdam, but please go ahead and I will meet you there!
“Vuma Levin is destined to be one of South African Jazz's greatest musicians” - Mail and Guardian
Vuma Ian Levin’s music is an attempt to abstract upon issues of race, nation, power and being globally and the emergent democratic South African project. Furthermore, he aims to respond to the “single story” told about Africa and its people and to articulate the South African cultural narrative in the 21st century. By drawing on the rich harmonic palette of contemporary Jazz, the upbeat yet at times melancholic sounds of South African Nguni-Sotho song, the groove and accessibility of various strands of pop music and by exploring sound design via the use of digital samples, loops and prepared instruments the band, “explores new identities in the African diaspora, painting a musical portrait of South Africa that is at once contemporary yet intimately tied to multiple rich historical traditions.”
