On Thursday, October 19th, the Carlo Felice Theater will open its own artistic season with Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim, the show that has revolutionized music history. In the Leonard Bernstein's centenary birthday, Broadway's most famous musical is back in a renewed, but faithful, original release.
West Side Story is a co-production of the Carlo Felice Theater and W.E.C. - World Entertainment Company; a significant association between a Lirico-Sinfonica Foundation and a private company operating in the field of great entertainment; two very different entities, united in the proposal of a new stimulating project.
This great set-up, created exclusively for Carlo Felice, will be directed by Federico Bellone (Sunset Avenue, Some Like It Hot, Mary Poppins of Disney) with a new adaptation of the booklet signed by Franco Travaglio and the original choreography by Jerome Robbins.
The Orchestra and Choir of the Carlo Felice Theater, directed by Wayne Marshall, will interpret the unforgettable melodies and the engaging rhythms of Bernstein's score; The cast of the music includes a number of outstanding artists including Luca Giacomelli Ferrarini (Tony), Veronica Appeddu (Maria), Simona Di Stefano (Anita) and Salvatore Maio (Bernardo).
Wayne Marshall - British organist, conductor and pianist - is a famous interpreter of the works by George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington and other composers of the twentieth century American. He recorded the integral of Gershwin's works for piano and orchestra with Symfoniorkester Aalborg as piano director and soloist. Marshall is a BBC Proms London host and in Protected content played with the BBC Big Band for a tribute to Duke Ellington.
A love story but also an action thriller, the West Side Story, is all this, an unlucky love between two youngsters, Tony and Mary, whose happiness is destroyed by hate between the two rivals they belong to: the Jets and the Sharks, all set in the jungle of New York City in the Protected content . The musical also gained success in its version for the big screen: the homonymous film with Natalie Wood won 10 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes and the Grammy Award for the Soundtrack.
