Ester Holiday+ Anzac Day - Fabulous Abel Tasman track
I'm planning to do the Abel Tasman Track over Ester holiday and ANZAC day. This would be an awesome long trip, you need to be reasonably fit and self-sufficient, You are responsible to organize your own flights and the camping gear. Please read carefully.
The huts for the Abel Tasman Track are pretty much booked so the plan is to camp for three nights as outlined below.
20 Apr: arrive in Nelson, stay the night in hostel/Airbnb, prepare food and drink
Abel Tasman Protected content
21 Apr: Meet at the Protected content
23 Apr: walk to Totaranui Campsite, Protected content , distance: 14 km . Cross Awaroa Inlet approx. 3pm near low tide.
24 Apr: walk to Wainui Bay carpark, 5 hours, distance: 13 km .
Bus pick up 1.30pm, travel back to Nelson
You can fly back to AKL on 24th evening after 6 pm or stay one more night in Nelson city and fly back home at 25 Apr.
!!!! Individuals will need to book the following:
- transport to and from Nelson (I have booked the return tickets)
We can book bus transport together for the track after you book the air tickets to Nelson
Here is the proposed bus schedule with Trek Express:

From Nelson I site to Marahau
Pick up time: in the morning To be confirmed
Cost: $21 pp
Date of Travel: 24th Apr
From: Wainui Bay Car Park to Nelson city or airport
Pick up time: 1:30 pm
Cost: $ 55 pp
Other costs (approx.):
Flights to Nelson: $150-$300 return
Nelson accommodation x 2 nights: $60-$120 up to your budget
Abel Tasman campsites: $45 for 3 nights (hut is $38 PP per night)
Food and water for the whole trip: up to your budget
What to bring:
Enough food to last up to 3 days, camping gear, clothes for Protected content , spare shoes, hiking boots, swimming gear and toiletries.
