The Rheingold - Opera by Richard Wagner

Dear members
In Das Rheingold, the eve of Richard Wagner's tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelungen, the course is set towards the end of the world. The catastrophe takes its course by two completely opposite worldviews colliding. The tragedy of Alberich, who believes that as a mortal man he has to take everything within his own life span. And the drama of Wotan, who must recognize in his - actual or supposed - immortality the emptiness and uniformity of eternal being.
With Das Rheingold, Tobias Kratzer starts his new staging of Wagner's Ring-Gesamtkunstwerk, whose four evenings will premiere over three seasons. While the Wagner reception of the past decades tended to emphasize the human qualities of the gods and the entire ring of the Nibelung often served as a foil for biting critique of capitalism, the future director of the Hamburg State Opera is primarily interested in the motif of faith and its importance for our society today. Because currently gods and goddesses live rather a niche existence.
