The panel will be made up of Dr. Melani Anae and Mr. Colin Henry JD. The purpose to educate about the Black Panther Party and the Polynesian Panther Party. To draw parallels to errors of the past and commonalities happening now, and how to move forward together progressively.

Dr. Melani Anae is Assoc. Professor in Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland. A Fulbright Scholar, a Marsden Award recipient and holder of the Queen’s Service Order Medal for services to Pacific communities, she has published extensively in the areas of transnational Pacific leadership, the politics of identity, Pacific activism in New Zealand, and Pacific research methodologies and relational ethics. She was a foundation member of the Polynesian Panther Party, the author of The Platform: The Radical Legacy of the Polynesian Panthers Protected content , and co-editor of The Polynesian Panthers: Pacific Protest and Affirmative Action in Aotearoa New Zealand Protected content .

COLIN HENRY has been an international lawyer for the past 40 years. He practiced first in New York. He was in his first academic quarter at the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois when Fred Hampton was murdered in his bed by Chicago police in December Protected content . Shocked by the event, he became an active member of the Pan African Movement at the University. Through the Movement, he organized and led protests against banks that were lending money to Apartheid South Africa and support for the liberation movements.
