Earth Day 2019 : Volunteer Meetup + Collection Drive
Dear KL Changemakers,
In conjunction with Earth Day (Apr 22), we will be having a volunteer gathering (read: makan+meetup session!) + collection drive for various recyclable wastes on 21st April Protected content .
We will be partnering with ERTH: E-waste Recycling, IPC Recycling Centre and EcoKnights who will be the recipients of these waste items. We are trying to arrange their representatives to come for pickup; otherwise 1 or 2 volunteers will send the items to the respective centres after the gathering session ends.
DATE // 21 APRIL Protected content
TIME // 11:30AM - 2:30PM
VENUE // Puzzini Swedish Pizza @ TTDI
Recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment. Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste. Recycling also reduces the need for raw materials so that the rainforests can be preserved.
These days, the electronic waste (e-waste) problem is especially huge: more than 20 million tons of e-waste are produced every year! When e-waste is warmed up, toxic chemicals are released into the air damaging the atmosphere, causing one of the biggest environmental impacts from e-waste. When electronic waste is thrown away in landfills their toxic materials seep into groundwater, affecting both land and sea animals.
Help keep these recyclable wastes out of landfills and support our community by dropping off your waste items (see list below) when you come for this activity. If you don't have anything to drop off, not to worry - you are very welcome to join us for the makan+meetup session anyway (p/s: have you tried Swedish pizzas??!).
