Learn About Thai Transgender Community From a Kratoey
Dear KL Changemakers,
Let's explore a topic that is culturally a taboo in Malaysia, but not so much for our neighbours in Thailand.
You may or may not agree with this cause, but this is your chance to learn and understand, perhaps even practise extra kindness, mindfulness and care.
The Kratoey, or Ladyboys, are a cultural draw in Thailand. While they’re mainly known for their dance shows, this October 25, we will sit down with a Thai Ladyboy to discuss gender identity and Thailand’s transgender community.
We will start with a briefing of the history of transgender in Thailand. Up until as recently as 20 years ago, transgenders were not accepted as they are nowadays. There were many movements, which included one of the first popular Thai movies that made more than Protected content baht in revenue. Thereafter, things changed and now their level of acceptance of the transgenders is the top in the world. Many more details will be shared, including the fascinating life story of a real Ladyboy.
You may ask questions during the session, but please be courteous and kind. This will be a unique experience that will be conducted via Zoom. Details as below:
