Pfalz hike: Rhein river valley views and forest trails
Finding our meeting point:
"Wanderparkplatz Sensental" at the edge of the forest outside the town of Deidesheim.
You may know the Heidenlöcher and Michaelskapelle from one of the past hikes. So If you ‘ve been there, don’t worry this is a new take on the trail :-)
We will hike up our first steep incline to the Michaelskapelle. Our trail then continues uphill through the “Heidenlöcher” – the remains of a fortified medieval settlement – up to the peak of the Eckkopf Protected content with the Eckkopfhütte. Leaving Eckkopf, we walk downhill, through the Martental valley and eventually arrive at the cozy Mühltalhütte at about km10 / 2:40 h into our hike. I suggest to have a snack or Pfälzer lunch here. The remaining trail will lead us through the vinyards back to the parking lot. Depending on the weather conditions we may still be able to catch a few rays of the November sun.
Things to bring:
Trail length: 12 km
Hiking time : ca. 3 h +stops
Exertion: long incline through first half of hike (from Protected content to 516m)
Last but not least:
- Empty seats in your car? Let’s carpool, have company and share costs! I will post the carpool link next week so we can arrange rides.
- Out of courtesy to your fellow hikers, please be on time and let me know in case you cannot join us after all.
- Please check this activity for possible weather related updates!
