City Trotters in Saint-Etienne – mine & design
Being a city trotter doesn’t mean staying in our own city ;-)… Let’s take our backpack and discover Saint-Etienne, which is the capital of the Loire department (and 50 km from Lyon). Saint-Etienne is an industrial city, also known for setting up a design biennale, and the largest of its kind in France.
I propose this time a discovery of the industrial history of Saint-Etienne through the mining adventure. The” Parc-Musée de la mine” is at the heart of a mining site, which is a historic Monument: it is set up in the buildings of the last coal pit of the city (closed in Protected content it's also a show mine and thus offers the possibility to visit a reconstructed gallery and the historical buildings of the former mine site. Let’s follow the footsteps of the miners through their daily lives!
Please, let me know if you can bring your car, so that I can organize the car-sharing from Lyon. There is also the possibility to go by train: there is a train leaving at 12:24 from Lyon Part Dieu and the price is 11,70 €.
I’m not organizing a restaurant, in order not to increase the cost of the journey. You can eat before coming or you can bring something that we can eat together; we can visit the museum in the afternoon from 02:00 pm and also visit the city center afterwards. (Let me know If you prefer to arrive earlier to have more time in the city center).
Full price Museum: 6,00 €
+ Car sharing or train (the train is 11,70 € for one way)
* Good to know: inhabitants of Saint-Étienne are called Stéphanois in French. They are named so because "Étienne" derives from the Greek Stephanos.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
