International Festival of Masquerade Games

The masquerade ritual is part of the Bulgarian folklore tradition, kept alive since ancient times. The masks are made from sheep and goat skins, poultry feathers, horns, woolen yarn and others. Participants wear the spectacular masks, move with a specific step and ring hundreds of bells. They chase the evil away and bring the good with them.
At the festival there will be thousands of participants from all ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, as well as 15 guest groups from Europe, Asia and Africa.
The program:
- competition parades from 10:00 to 18:00
- stage for foreign participants from 11:00 to 18:00
- creative and masquerade workshops from 10:00 to 17:00
- concerts from 19:00 to 20:30
We will arrive at 11:30 and stay till 20:00. Will sit down somewhere for lunch. Back in Sofia at 21:10. Of course, if someone decides to return earlier, they are free to do so.
The festival itself is for free. Costs to be incurred: train tickets (2 x LEV 3. Protected content + any other consumption and souvenirs. Not everywhere it is possible to pay by card, so bring some cash with you.
