Let's extend the summer feeling and enjoy an easy and peaceful bike loop this Sunday!
We will start from Colmar, follow some canals on 20km, visit the Neuf Brisach stronghold before returning to Colmar across woodland.

The loop will start from the Colmar train station (if you come by train, a TER leaves Basel at 10:21, Mulhouse at 10:46 and reaches Colmar at 11:05).
We will meet at 11am in front of the “Velo Docteurs” shop. You can rent a bike at Velo Docteurs (max 12€ per day, 8€ if less than 5 hours. Deposit 150€).
If you prefer to bring your own bike, you can take it on the train. Either mountain or hybrid bikes will be fine (road or racing bikes not suitable as some parts of the run are not tarred). Please make sure your bike is in good condition with the tyres properly inflated. Do not forget your helmet and locker as well as some water.

After approx. 3km around Colmar, we will reach the Ill river in the outskirts of the city. Here we will already leave the busy roads and briefly follow the river up to a first lock, where we will turn East to follow the “Canal de Colmar” (Colmar Canal) on 11km.
We will then reach the bigger “Canal du Rhone au Rhin” (Rhone-Rhine Canal) where it should be time for picnic.
After lunch we can optionally enjoy a delicious pastry in a nearby salon de thé, ideally located by the Canal.

We will then resume our ride following the Canal on 10km.
After a few more locks and the beautiful Kunheim village we will reach Neuf-Brisach (fortified town build by Vauban, inscribed on the UNESCO list). After a nice ride around the Citadel (a perfect way, if not the best, to discover it) we can stop on the sunny “Place d’Armes” (main square) to have a drink or eat something.
We can also visit the Street Art museum that just opened right inside the Citadel (see Protected content

It will then be time to head back home. We will ride 3kms to leave the Neuf-Brisach, then Wolfgantzen villages behind us, and reach the Kastenwald Forest. We will enjoy 5km of peaceful tracks in the forest before we cross the Ill River again. After a couple of kilometers across the Sundhoffen village we will ride 3km across the Neuland Forest (or Colmar forest). The last 5 kilometers will take us along the Thur, then the Lauch small rivers, and finally through the “Quartier Sud” area and its elegant, wealthy houses, until the train station.

The loop is approximatively Protected content in length. Although this may sound a lot especially if you are not used to biking, the whole route is very easy and totally flat (overall elevation no more than 40 meters). We will also pause regularly to enjoy the landscape along the way.
Most of the route (except the 3km exiting Colmar, and in Neuf-Brisach) is off the main streets, either on separate or exclusive cycle tracks.
