Romanian dessert- PAPANAȘI (online event- Ro with Eng Sub)
It is always a pleasure to observe the reaction of an expat or a tourist after ordering Papanași (pronounced Papanash) for the first time - this huge donut of the Carpathian mountains, almost impossible to finish from the plate after an already hearty lunch.
Papanași - an accumulation of calories - is the core of all desserts in Romania, a fried dough, filled with cottage cheese.
Its characteristic is the piece of dough in the shape of a sphere placed above the donut, like a hat. The touch of sour cream and the fruity taste of the jam or preserve make Papanași a real culinary surprise.
INGREDIENTS for 6 Papanași:
500 g sweet cottage cheese/ Ricotta cheese
300 g flour
200 g sour cream
150 g jam/ preserve
30 g vanilla sugar
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
zest of a lemon
a little salt
