Journey to the Chrysanthemum Festival
If you also happen to have Friday off and are looking for a last-minute-trip next weekend, how about heading north to the Black Forest?
The Black Forest has more than cuckoo clocks and dark forests of pine trees: it will also host the festival of chrysanthema flowers (in Lahr). And the eerie atmosphere that some houses of medieval Freiburg bear could be quite appropriate, given that it's... Halloween!
Given that we might have a sunny Friday, a cloudy Saturday and a rainy Sunday, a tentative plan would be:
1) have a 2hr walk in Liestal on Friday, to take in some autumn views ( Protected content ) and visit the animal park: Protected content
Spend the evening in Freiburg
2) explore Lahr on Saturday and enjoy the chrysanthema + choir festival Protected content
3) visit Basel on Sunday, while taking advantage of the free museums
