A Hiden Gem
Dear Explorer group members,
This outing we will visitProtected content
Although located in walking distance to BTS Phaya Thai and surrounded by high rise buildings, this museum and its park are an oasis of calm in the middle of the city.
Suan Pakkad Palace is a place to find visions of Thailand you thought long since vanished in Bangkok. Its name means 'cabbage patch', in reference to when the land was nothing more than just that. Today, however, it's a well-tended tropical garden with serene ponds surrounding eight traditional Thai houses, each of which is overflowing with fine arts, antiques and oddities belonging to Prince and Princess Chumbhot.
The collections range from Ban Chiang (one of the three oldest human settlements) artifacts through historic music instruments, Khon masks, old living quarters, Chinese ceramics to the replication of an antique battle.
We will meet at BTS Phaya Thai, upstairs outside of exit 4 at 11:00 AM
Location: Protected content
Afterwards, optionally for those who are interested, we can take the BTS to Asok and have lunch at MEU republic. This restaurant, owned by a traditional Thai doctor, has a strong focus on healthy herbal dishes at very affordable prices.
As always the event is free, everybody only pays the museum entrance fee Protected content ) and his food.
