Carnival
With Masopust in full swing, and Shrove Tuesday the 1st of March, this month’s theme is CARNIVAL (farewell, meat, etc.). In case you do not witness a masopustian procession between now and the Ides of March, the theme can be interpreted more widely as the CARNIVALESQUE: The "carnival travesties: it crowns and uncrowns, inverts rank, exchanges roles, makes sense from nonsense and nonsense of sense” (Mikhail Bakhtin). Or, you can find something of the GROTESQUE, say in one of St Vitus’s gargoyles.
