Dunhuang Caisson Design Workshop 敦煌图案绘画课
Are you interested in learning more about Chinese art, but tired of calligraphy? Then come and join The SLab in a unique cultural workshop that explores the beautiful caisson ceiling “Zaojing” designs, an essential architectural element found in Dunhuang, Gansu.
Learn to create motifs to design your own square patterned artwork or cushion cover with techniques that is a unique tradition to Chinese culture. Take a peek into history, how artists in ancient would paint patterns of aquatic plants onto the ceiling in the palace pavilion, decorating it with lotus, algae, and lings in superstitious hopes of warding off fire to protect the buildings.
Create an original completed square artwork on fabric for a cushion cover, a bag, or on paper to frame and hang on the wall, that is a reflection of Caisson Design.
