Join for a trip into Germany's historic past. 9 years after Christ. Territories left of the Rhine are Roman provinces, the territories right of the Rhine (mainly woods and swamps and no Autobahns) is settlement area of the free Germans, "Germania libera". In his attempt to widen the Roman influence right of the Rhine, the Roman general Varus gets into an ambush in which 3 Roman legions are devastated. When hearing about this desaster, Emperor Octavian said: "Vare, redde mi legiones" (Varus, give me the legions back). At the site you can see barriers of the Germanic forces, the museum shows finds like Roman coins, weapons etc.
The site is near Osnabrueck, but not easily reached with public transport. Let's see what the interest will be and then look if we can organise that we have enough drivers to get everyone to the site and safely back ;-)
