Lunchtime Concert: Adaya Malka Peled | Bloomsbury Festival 2020
In this lunchtime concert soprano, Adaya Malka Peled, and pianist, Chavdar Mazgalov, will take you on a journey through some of the magical and mesmerising music of three great and important composers: Franz Schubert, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Aaron Copland.
- Copland’s Four Early Songs were composed after the First World War in Protected content , to poems by Aaron Schaffer and John Duncan. The cycle’s composition is strongly influenced by the late romanticism and, mostly, by the impressionist era.
- The recital continues with 4 Mignon-Lieder by Franz Schubert. Mignon and her songs are presented in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s novel Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship. Her obscure, yet heartbreaking character, captivated and inspired many composers since the 18th century. Mignon is a young orphan girl who carries a very dark secret within her. Schubert’s well-known compositions of these songs reveal Mignon’s fragility, internal struggle and passions.
- The last part of the recital, will include a collection of some of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most beloved songs.
