Jazz For Curious Listeners is an excellent program (informative and enjoyable) directly from the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

Here is a woman who recorded swinging jazz vocals long before Louis Armstrong. Her acting on Broadway in major shows garnered the respect of her greatest peers, even though she was not considered for major awards at the time.
Ethel Waters is sorely overdue for a reassessment, bringing her great artistry over many decades as an actress and a singer to the current generation.
There is a good biography by Donald Bogle and above all, her autobiography "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", a MUST READ.
This is the first part of three presentations including rare film and audio.
