Discovering Dali's Homeland: Hike from Cadaques to Cap de Creus
DIFFICULTY: the trail is technically easy, and the hike should take around 2 hours (6Km, quite flat)
DESCRIPTION: This is no doubt one of the most beautiful sections of the Costa Brava’s “Cami de Ronda”, which will let us discover many “cales” (small beaches between rocks), while walking with views to the sea, visiting the House in Portlligat where Salvador Dali spent the most of his life, and discovering the most charming village in the whole of Costa Brava, which inspired Dali during the best years of his life: Cadaqués. We will walk from Cadaqués until Cap de Creus, the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, which geologically corresponds to the eastern end of the Pyrenees mountain range.
Departing by 9AM from Barcelona, we should be in Cadaqués by 11.30h. Once there, drivers will go to leave their cars in Cap de Creus, and meanwhile the rest have time to take a coffee in the waterfront. Once the drivers are back, at 12h we should start the hike. We are likely to arrive at Cap de Creus around 14h, have lunch there, and go by car to visit the Dali House-Museum in Portlligat (Optional). There is a restaurant bar in Cap de Creus, but I RECOMMEND TO BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH.
Those who wish to visit Dali’s House-Museum must book online at Protected content or by phone at Protected content . In the website you will see the number of places available for every entry time, some of which are available to be booked online, while others can only be booked by phone. Considering the estimated schedules, we should book from 15.30 onwards according to the availability for this and the following entry times. The price of the ticket is 11€, and the visit lasts 40 minutes. There are visits starting until 17.10h. As participants finish their visit to the Museum they should go on foot or by car back to Cadaqués, where to meet with the rest of the group in the same terrace as in the morning. PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE SAYING IF YOU BOOK A TICKET AND AT WHAT TIME YOU BOOK IT.
You may see a video about Dali's House Museum at:
Those who do not wish to visit the Museum may go to visit and enjoy Cadaqués, and there is the option -for those who wish to hike a bit more- to walk the Cami de Ronda from Cadaqués to Far de Calanans (1 hour return) , from where there are the best views to the village’s bay (see picture gallery).
Further, some people have commented about the possibility to STAY OVERNIGHT IN CADAQUES or somewhere else in the area to enjoy the whole weekend. Those willing to do so, LET ME KNOW by sending me a PRIVATE MESSAGE with your telephone number and I will put you all in contact so to arrange the accommodation, BUT PLEASE DO NOT POST MESSAGES IN THE BOARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE, to avoid overloading all attendants’ email inbox. I suggest creating a Whatsapp group to discuss possible plans for accommodation and Sunday. However, the rest of the weekend is beyond the scope of this activity and so should be co-organized by all participants –someone else should take the lead-, assuming that we could split in different groups according to different interests.
For Sunday I suggest many options with regards to the nature & cultural resources to visit: St. Pere de Rodes Monastery, El Port de la Selva, Cala Montjoi and nearby beaches, Dali Museum in Figueres, Dali Castle of Púbol, Girona city, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà marshland park, Greek & Roman ruins of Empúries, medieval villages of Pals and Peratallada, other hikes along “Camins de Ronda”, etc. In searching for information, I recommend you to visit Protected content
There are many regular buses leaving from Cadaques to Roses, and from there to Barcelona, so there is no need to have "enough" cars to come back on Sunday in case you decide to stay in Cadaques area.
Given the initial limited capacity, there are many issues to consider in case of different possible happenings:
• IF THE LIST IS FULL SEND ME A MESSAGE AND I WILL INCLUDE YOU IN A WAITING LIST. WAITING LIST MEMBERS WILL BE ASIGNED A PLACE IN CASE OF CANCELLATIONS OR NEW CAPACITY –NEW PARTICIPANT BRINGING A CAR- ON A FIRST-LISTED FIRST-SERVED BASIS.
• WHEN THE LIST REACHES THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY I WILL CLOSE IT, WHICH MEANS ALSO THAT REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS CANNOT CANCEL AUTOMATICALLY. THEN, IF YOU WISH TO CANCEL ATTENDANCE JUST SEND ME A MESSAGE. THIS IS TO GUARANTEE THAT FIRST LISTED IN THE WAITING LIST HAVE THE PRIORITY WHEN THERE ARE NEW SEATS AVAILABLE.
• IN CASE ONE OF THE DRIVERS CANNOT FINALLY COME, THE LAST LISTED OUT OF THE NEWLY REDUCED CAPACITY WILL HAVE TO STAY.
• IF A REGISTERED PERSON CANNOT COME, HE/SHE SHOULD CANCEL ATTENDANCE AT LEAST 24H BEFORE THE MEETING TIME. THIS IS TO FACILITATE ATTENDANCE OF THE WAITING LIST MEMBERS, AND ALSO TO OPTIMIZE CAPACITY IN CASE LESSER CARS ARE NEEDED.
• IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER FORECAST I WILL WAIT TO CONFIRM THE FORECAST UNTIL FRIDAY EVENING TO CANCEL THE EVENT.
