"Printing Clothes Museum (guided) & Vermouth : Premia de Mar
My first Internations activity in BCN, July Protected content , I met Assumpta, from Internations too.
We got on very well since the first momment, realising we had a lot of things in common.
Among them, strong art passion & my dad's relationship in the past, with the Museum she works : Museu de l'Estampació in Premià (Maresme county) or Stamping/Printing Clothes Museum.
She's so passionate about the Museum and my curiosity to visit so many things I don't know yet in Catalunya and Maresme in this case, that kept us talking from last 3 years to organise this.
Here it is in the end, and she will be the one doing our English Guided Visit to the Museum.
The visit will begin at 12:00h and takes around 1h, after that we can stroll to see the most relevant in the village and/or look for a Vermouth place to finish.
We will meet at Protected content
I'm going to copy a little Info from the Museum Website that seems to be only in catalan (Google translator used!) :
The Premià de Mar Museum is the only museum in Spain specialized in textile printing. For this reason, and because of being part of the mNACTEC Territorial System, it is a national museum.
Located in the building of the former Gas Factory, its main objective is to explain the stamping, as a technique, over time and, especially, the important role of this economic activity as a basis for the industrialization of Catalonia.
You can visit the permanent exhibition, dedicated to textile printing, also offer temporary exhibitions and various activities for groups, guided tours, printing demonstrations and workshops in the Obrador/Workshop/Wharehouse of the Museum.
The Maresme has been an area where textile and stamping have been developed with strenght. In Premià de Mar, there has been a manufacturing activity in the field of printing of the first magnitude, especially during the 20th century, where the factory "Lyon Barcelona S.A." stands out. This was the introducer of the printing system for Lyon in Spain and for most of the century it has been one of the most important stamping factories in the State.
However, the Museum's priority objective is to explain the stamping in Catalonia. This activity, started strongly in the eighteenth century, with Indianes/Americanos that in the Modernism time went to America to make fortune and retourned rich. It is of the utmost importance to understand the process of industrialization of the country. The large concentration of factories in Barcelona, and the extension of the activity for many points in Catalonia, created a technical and economic potential on which the adventure of the tèxtile factories could grow so much in the XX century.
The Museu de l'Estampació de Premià de Mar is a municipal museum, which is part of the museums registered by the Museum of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which is part of the system of Museums of Science and Technology of Catalonia. Its headquarters are the former gas factory of Premià de Mar, a building that has been rehabilitated to house it.
The Museu de l'Estampació de Premià de Mar has four basic thematic lines:
1. Stamping: The basic objective in this field is to study, conserve and disseminate the material remains of the stamping activity, in order to explain the contribution and characteristics of the stamping process in the industrialization process of Catalonia.
2. Local archeology: Given the archaeological wealth of the municipal district of Premià de Mar, as well as the tradition of archaeological studies developed from the AECC and the Museu de Premià de Mar, from where the village had been excavated Iberian of the Chair of the Bishop of Premià de Dalt, the Museum of Premià de Mar Stamping - the only city museum and a municipal character - has the obligation to conserve, study and disseminate the archeology of the municipality.
3. History and local ethnography: As the Premià de Mar Stamp Museum is the only museum in the town and has a municipal character, it must assume the task of ensuring that the testimonies of history are not lost and local ethnology.
4. Gas factory in Premià de Mar: The location of the Museum in the gas factory building, encourages the study and musealization of this old installation, always within the discourse of the industrialization of Catalonia. It is especially important to do so, since there is no gas factory in Catalonia that has been museed and that can be explained to the public.
Hope to enjoy the visit!
