Weather permitting, we will climb Ilaló. This is the extinct volcano located in Valle de Los Chillos, near Sangolqui. While it is not a long distance, it is rather steep and I expect it to take about 3 hours to reach the top and an hour and 15 minutes to go back down. There is no rock climbing involved however. It will be merely hiking a steep trail up and down.

There are actually 2 peaks on Ilalo. We will all be going to the lower one where the cross is located. But if there is sufficient interest and stamina for some or all of us, there is a *possible* option for those interested for an extended hike to the higher peak which is the true top of Ilalo which adds about 1.75 hours round trip time to the hike.

Do bring a packed lunch and adequate water. Dogs are permitted here so feel free to bring yours so long as it won't be any nuisance or problem for others. There is no water or streams available anywhere for dogs during the hike (unless it starts raining in which case that won't be good! :) so plan accordingly.

We will be meeting in Quito at the prescribed location and time as shown on the map for car pooling to our start point of our hike in Tingo. Because this involves coordinated carpooling, for the convenience and security of everyone, I want to ensure adequate transportation is arranged in advance. So if you can provide transportation and have seats available, or if you are in need a ride, please let me know in advance. ***Please don't post this info on the board here.*** Message me privately and I'll coordinate & post all information in an orderly fashion so the board doesn't get cluttered with confusing pleas & offers. If you do arrange your own ride arrangements, great. I don't need to know about that . Only if you need a ride or have seats available. Thank you.

I'll ask that carpool recipients each donate $5 for gas to drivers.

As a courtesy to all, please do take my contact information and call me if there are any last minute delays or cancellations. I don't have web access while on the road so do call my cell and don't post here.

With some luck we'll have the same great weather we had on the Parque Metropolitan trip. It should be fun.
