Scenic Drive through a Volcano Preserve with a Hike to Lake
Summer has arrive! Let's get together to take in the awe-inspiring outdoors and adventure to Reserva Ecologica Antisana which include Laguna de la Mica. This is an unforgettable journey 50 km outside Quito in Pintag to a National Park on petrified lava of Volcano Artisana that concludes with a two hour hike to a the pristine lake of Laguna de la Mica. The roads are less travelled, so expect a long drive in the company of new and old friends.
As we make our way to the entrance, we have the opportunity to see incredible wildlife including bulls, deer, bunnies, llamas running wild and Andean bird species including an area where we can get out and see Condors fly.
Please be aware this will be a long day. Driving time is approximately four hours each way, and the walk once inside to the lagoon is about two hours each way. Prepare with layers, gloves, hats and scarves for cold weather since we will be at a higher elevation and open to elements.
Before entering, we can enjoy a local snack of Haba beans, fresh cheese and choclo roadside at the entrance to the park. There are few amenities in this national treasure, so come prepared with light snacks and beverages. To get there, we will need three vehicles for the maximum 12 attendees. Members will pay a courtesy of $10 to those that bring their vehicles. Entrance to the park requires a cedula and passport and costs just under $5.
After our journey in the Reserve ends, we can find spot to enjoy a meal as a group.
