Tour of the Former Tea Production House + Tea Tasting (Optional)
Tea production and trade flourished one day in Dadaocheng. The area was once referred to as ‘streets and alleys of tea and flower fragrance’. Tea leaves would be brought here to process and produce a variety of teas for export as well as the local market.
I have booked us a tour around Sin Hong Choon Special Exhibition which covers Taiwanese tea production and trade in the 20th century. The building itself used to house the tea production containing a refinery, roasting room, tea picking room, office as well as the owner’ living quarters and a family shrine. The last owner who donated the building to the government is still roaming the rooms and even showed us a room where he was born!
The tour will discuss the journey tea leaves make and how different types are prepared. It will also show the different equipment used in tea production. It takes about 30 minutes. Finally, we can look around all three floors of this lovely building as well as see a bit of the setting and some costumes used in the recent series La Grande Chaumiere Violette. There are a lot of references to life in Taipei in Protected content and Protected content .
We can also do some tea tasting at the end (please send me a personal message if you would like to do it as it’s optional and involves a 100NTD charge - the tour itself is free). I will then know how many people to book it for.
