The Museum of the National Bank of Belgium: guided visit
We certainly will enjoy our afternoon with Open Doors of the Museum of the National Bank of Belgium, exceptionally open on 16th September Protected content !
Our organised guided visit at The Museum of the National Bank offers a unique presentation on the theme of money, an everyday object and an abstract idea, and currency: history, role in the economy, different forms, counterfeits, cultural and international dimensions, money in the form of stone or salt, metal or paper, bank money or electronic, and more.
It is great to be able to test our knowledge during the visit and to learn more about the economic market in a fun way.
We will find out about the material the euro and the dollar notes are made off, see a genuine stone from Yap-island, the collection of commodity money, coins, banknotes and medals, which has been expanding since Protected content , the inauguration year.
We will see many precious objects in one spot.
The story of means of payment stretches back into the mists of time. The evolution of money and currency is closely linked with the civilisations that produced it and with the events of the time. Money is a vital clue to conflicts and economic crises, peace and prosperity.
We have the chance to visit the new museum as a cultural institution in the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
On week-ends the Museum is closed. This is the one possibility to learn more about Belgium in an interactive and lively presentation, have a InterNations conversation, ask questions.
It is a journey to the centre of the fascinating world of money in the premises of the National Bank.
Please come 5 minutes before the presentation starts, thus 11h55.
