New route - Iztaccihuatl Base Camp - Medium+ level
Iztaccihuatl Base Camp (Refuge of the Protected content
Shelter located at Protected content above sea level on the the Iztaccíhuatl.
We will begin the hike at the Joya, a base camp area at Protected content above sea level. Due to the high altitude it is considered a High Mountain range, for this reason some people may experience high altitude sickness symptoms. The trail is in good condition, but presents loose gravel, consider that hiking boots and trekking poles are highly recommended.
The hiking trip we’ll be doing requires a medium level of hiking experience. People eligible for this trip must also engage in moderately heavy exercise on a regular basis, since they’ll be hiking for a total of The total 4/5-hour-long hike will be about 8 km long. This is the hardest that one medium level hiking for the altitude.
What you need for the hike:
Adequate footwear is mandatory - Hiking boots or shoes. If you don’t wear proper shoes you will be discouraged to participate, because the trails are often steep and usually present loose rocks, making it easy to get injured.
Please bring with you:
• 1.5 Lts Drinking Water
• Waterproof jacket and trousers in case it rains.
• Warm Jacket, it usually is quite cold and windy at the top of the mountain
• Recommended light fabric shirts
• Hat & sunglasses
Unfortunately, signaling is scarce along Mexican hiking routes, so don’t expect us to constantly follow the same route.
IMPORTANT: If you can bring your own car, please post this in the activity wall and indicate how many people you could take with you. If you wish to go but do not have a car, please post a message too so that others can offer a lift if possible.
