Rock Castles - Medium Level Hike - new route

These igneous rock formations that resemble castles are encountered close to the 1er Portillo ( First Gate) at Iztaccihuatl. The trail to the Primer Portillo represents less than Protected content of elevation gain, so it should not imply much effort, but due to the altitude (4,405 MASL) it may be difficult for those not used to such height.

We'll head to Paso de Cortés, stop at the Park's ranger house to get  registered and keep driving towards la Joya  (4,048 MASL ), which is the main entrance to the climbing routes towards the Portillos and Ayoloco.

The hike starts climbing towards the First Portillo and then descending toward the Castles (4,405 MASL). The way back is on another route in order to complete a circuit.

We'll stop for lunch /dinner at a restaurant on our way back to Amecameca.

Arturo, our guide, knows the path well and will lead the way since trails in Mexico are not always marked. Any questions please post below!

IMPORTANT: We are carpooling! If you can bring your own car, please post this in the activity wall and indicate how many people you could take with you. If you need a ride please post a message too so that others can offer a lift. If you are getting a ride, please collaborate with gas, tolls and car-wash.
