Eshee Havana @ Fahrenheit today (Addis Ababa)

If you're up for a Big Salsa weekend Eshee Havana play their Pre-Festival Performance in Fahrenheit Club, next to Edna Mall. @ Friday 3rd Feb. From 10:30pm.

Eshee Havana is a unique group of Ethiopian and locally based international musicians who are combining their talents and experience to pioneer Ethio-Salsa a new and ground-breaking hybrid sound which fuses Ethiopian and Latin music.

Eshee Havana were established in Protected content premiered in June at the first Acacia Jazz Festival, introducing Ethiopians to popular Cuban songs with lyrical translations into Amharic. The band featured talented London percussionist, Tim
Dodd (Founder and Band leader) on congas, experienced Ethiopian drummer
Teferi Assefa on timbales and Edi Stevens on flute/vocal/hand perc. from London.
The group then grew in strength adding Ethiopian bass man Joe Mengiste and
equipping itself with a powerful horns section, Ethiopian sax man Feleke Hailu and
Trumpeter Wolfgang Zebe from Germany, and Ethiopian female vocalist Bitik
Emlaelu. The new line-up’s second appearance at the Acacia Jazz Festival in
Protected content enthusiastically received, and the group’s popularity continued to grow -
with the later additions of Finish guitarist, Markku Keski-Maenpaa, U.S. alto
saxophonist, Dr. Jonovan Cooper, and Ethio-Armenian male vocalist, Vahe
Tilbian.
