Using an Amazon Kindle (Addis Ababa)

Hello,

I am moving to Addis in September. I am wondering if anyone has experience with using an Amazon Kindle e-book reader. I am trying to figure out if I can buy a Kindle in the United State and buy books on it back connecting to a wi-fi spot in Ethiopia.

Also, if anyone has general tips on accessing and dealing with wi-fi in the country and recommendation on which devices to bring, let me know. Any help is appreciated.
