Importing a car from France (Algiers)

Has anyone had an recent experience on this. I'm thinking of importing my Protected content from France and have been advised as I have a work permit I can do this without incurring import duties etc, all I need to do is pay insurance here on arrival - Having been burnt once in a previous overseas post when importing my car I wish to avoid a repeat experience.
