What's Alicnate like (Alicante)

Hola a todos

I might have a job offer in Alicante and i am very interested but have never been to the area and would love any input and opinions before i visit.
I have lived and worked in Barcelona for many years and also India and the UK so am quite well travelled.
I am basically wondering if it will be a nice place for a single 30 something gal, can you get a nice and affordable place to live? Is it easy to meet new friends, expats and spaniards etc. Is it safe? what do you do for fun? So many questions :)
