American Woman Amman

Hello, I am a Masters student and this summer I am required to take Arabic courses in the Middle East as a part of my Arab World Studies MSc. Although I am very aware and respectful of the culture, I will be coming by myself and will stand out like a sore thumb with my bright blonde hair. Is it safe for an obviously American woman to walk places during the day, use public transport, and other such things? I am basically just wondering how I will be treated as an obviously western woman. Thank you ahead of time for any advice!!!
