Cairo or Amman? Which is a nicer family place?

Hi All,
My company is moving me to a regional role looking after several countries in the Levant and middle east and I get to choose where I base myself. Originally I thought Cairo would be best (the current office is in New Cairo) but New Cairo looked like a huge construction site when I saw it. Amman I visited for only one day but it looks nice and clean, if a little staid. Has anyone had experience of both cities and could provide recommendations on which to choose? We are a western family with kids 11 and 8, like a nice glass of wine with dinner and being able to go for a run outdoors of a morning. Kids will go to a British school if there is one?
