New in town - activities in Amman?

Hello all,

I am new in Amman, and am looking for activities to do in Amman at week-ends, or maybe after work during the week. I have heard of plenty of things, but with no more precision than "I think there are good walking/trekking/sightseeing groups in Amman" or 'there are activities somewhere in relation to archeology".

I am looking for activities with fun, dynamic groups, preferably not the kind of activity you need to attend every week (I will probably be absent on missions some weeks and week-ends). It could be walking, cycling (if not too physical... I wonder if there are ways to do cycling in Amman without too many ups and downs), short treks in nature, or more intellectual activities too, related to archeology maybe or other similar things. Coffee meetings with nice groups can be fun too...

Any ideas?

Also, one question: I do not own a car. When going out to the restaurant in the evening, how do you do? Can you easily find taxis to drive you back home?
