Sales in Amsterdam - Where to go?

Dear all,
I live in Brussels but I will be the next 2 or 3 weeks in Amsterdam so I would like to ask:
1 - When does the sales start in Amsterdam (is it December 26th or only after January 1st)?
2 - Where to go for chothes and shoes? Which are the best streets?
