Where to live in Amsterdam?

Hi everybody,

I’m going to move to Amsterdam fairly soon and was wondering if anyone could give me a hint which areas are recommendable to live in and which you would rather not recommend (e.g.: I live in Vancouver at the moment and would not recommend to live on Hastings Street or in East Vancouver (too many crack heads and drug addicts)). Any idea would be highly appreciated.

Also, do you know a good newspaper or website to find offers for apartments to rent?
