Advice/Help (Ankara)

I'm moving to Ankara in the middle of August for a teaching job. This is my first time out if the country so I'm nervous, excited, and full of questions. How much of my stuff should I bring with me or is it worth the headache to bring clothes, books, shoes? How much Turkish should I know when I land. I'm really nervous about not knowing the language. Is it hard to make friends? Any suggestions about meeting people? And last question, I'm a vegan does that mean I'm going to starve?
