immigration question- identiteitskaart (Antwerp)

For those of you who had the orange card (6-months temporary resident card for non-EU people):
When the 6 months were up and you went to get your permanent ID card were you able to get it that same day? Within a couple days? Weeks?

I am trying to plan a trip out of the country as soon as I get the card but don't know how much longer I'll have to wait after the 6 months are up.
