COURSE ONE: Introduction to Photography (commencing 06 March)

Module One : Understanding the Camera
Get to know your camera, the primary tool for taking photographs! In this course we will look at different types of cameras and what they can offer, and we will look at the camera's functions. Some of the topics covered will be selective focusing, exposure, aperture, shutter speed, white balance and iso, etc.

Module Two : Composition, Lighting and the Decisive Moment
Learn to improve your composition and work with different types of lighting while also considering the importance of time in a photograph. Some of the techniques covered will be rule-of-thirds, lenses and lens distortion, using available light, etc.

Module Three : Manipulation
Learn what Photoshop can offer by way of enhancing and manipulating your image. This course will introduce you to the key elements of Photoshop. Topics covered will include the tools, the histogram, levels and curves, history, transforming, cropping, re-sizing and saving images.

All modules are optional and have been designed as either stand-alone or follow-on lessons. Each module consist of four weekly 3-hour lessons commencing with Module One (Understanding the Camera) which will run every Tuesday evening from 18: Protected content (field trips will worked in for daylight shooting). Lessons will take place on Tuesdays 06, 13, 20, 27 March Protected content .

Lessons will be undertaken by Jeff Vanderpool who is a professional photographer, curator and teacher of photography (bio available on request).

Cost per Module: Euro 120.00 (total 12 hours)*

*(A reduction will be offered for those signing up in advance for all three modules)

Note about cameras: SLRs are ideal but not necessary. Those with compacts may, however, be limited with certain camera functions.
