Kavala for a month (Athens)

Hi, my name is Lauren and I will be staying in Kavala for the next month for some work-related training at the airport, and I was looking for recommendations of things to do in my (fairly extensive) free time! I have been to Kavala briefly before, when I visited the castle and aqueduct in the city. I would like to visit some more (February-friendly) tourist sites, but also I would like to get involved in the local community a bit since I will be there for an extended amount of time. I see there is a Thessaloniki group here on on Internations- but can't figure out how to add myself...

Where can I grocery shop? Are stores open on Sundays?
Is there a community pool where I can lap swim?
Is there a local university where I could perhaps meet other young people?
Do you recommend doing a Greek language course? Cooking course?
Can I get around without a car? Is there a month long bus pass?
