Views on living in Athens: pros and cons

All Athens internations members, I am considering a job in Athens and would like to know what it's like living in Athens - I am 40 years old and single, no kids. I enjoy good food, keeping fit, travel, theatre, live music, good cultural events - I also would love to live by the sea in Athens. I was there for a few hours this week within the areas of Kifisia and Marousi, the office is in Halandri and it seems that everyone lives NOT at the sea, but near the mountains - why is that? What is Athens like? From the little I saw it doesn't seem like the rest of Europe at all, I am coming from Mumbai and am looking for a city where things work, where there are interesting things happening, and the living is easy :) I understand the Greek economic situation may result in my nirvana being a challenge, but would love your views as I make my decision to move there for Protected content .
