Advice moving with 2 children (Atlanta)

Hi all, I wanted to pick your brains and advice please. I am possibly moving to Atlanta Roswell area with my 2 children and dogs and will arriving 3-4months before my husband arrives. My husband is a bit concerned with us being there on our own without him, I have been over a few times and liked the feel of it.
I felt it was important the children start school on the first day of term with everybody else. Would you all think that it is safe enough for us to be there on our own?
