On moving to germany (Austin)

Hi, whoever is reading this. I was hoping you could help me out with a little something. I'm planning to move to Germany in roughly a year or a year and a half to get my college degree in pharmacy. However, I also plan to work as a pharmacy technician during my stay(with any luck, I'll become a pharm tech in a month or so).

Here's what I'm not too clear on: do I need to get both an employment and a study permit to be able to do so, or will the employment permit suffice? Also, (if only the employment permit is needed) I did some research and saw that if you're going to be a student then you also must bring with you around Protected content to be able to stay. Do I need this money if I go for employment as well?
