Anyone got any ways to get there for less than $2,000?

I've been run around by travel agencies trying to route through China, Turkey, Russia and Georgia with varying success on building a route but through the roof on the cost.

I thought maybe fly to Georgia and then train in but that didn't work through Delta who I preferred. The train from Turkey looks like a long ride.

Anyone been through Russia or China? Would I need a transit visa or am I okay if I stay in their terminals?
