Is there really a Civil War going on in Bangkok?

Hey everyone, I was offered a position at the United Nations Office in Bangkok and I keep hearing that you've got a civil war situation in the city and that there are explosions and shoot-outs happening almost every day and that the city is controlled by the army.
I've seen different reports on the media and I'd like to know it directly from people who are there, what the situation is and whether it's safe to go and work there for a foreigner from July this year.
