Living in Bangkok as a student

Following my posting in Housing forum category.....

There may be an opportunity for me to do my student work placement at Bangkok from mid-August to mid-February. I have no idea what the cost of living is in the city. As I am a student, I will be spending on necessities only.

Any idea how much to budget monthly for food/groceries, public transport, miscellaneous? Advice on accommodation would be greatly appreciated too (i.e., rent without agent fee please).
