New Year Celebrations in Bangkok

Hi, we plan to celebrate New Years with kids ( age 4/8) around the river front or at central world but I am told that traffic and crowds can be quite a spoiler, especially with kids ( area around central world gets closed for traffic ). Anyone has suggestions / tips / tricks on how to get around these issues or suggest alternative great events / locations which are kid friendly ( or atleast kid survivable )
