Using my Iphone 4s in Bangkok

Hi everyone,

I am making the big move to Bangkok from San Francisco (Going to be teaching 5th grade at an international school). I have an Iphone 4s with Verizon and still wish to use my phone in Bangkok with a local carrier.

I was told by the Verizon reps that they will unlock my phone and then I'll be able to use it with any Thai service provider. However, some forums suggest that I still need to jailbreak my iphone first to make it work. I don't know if Verizon decided to circumvent this restriction and just unlock iphones to make it easier or what.

In any case, I was wondering if anyone knows specifically what would be the process to drop verizon service and have my Iphone's full functionality in Thailand.
