What is the situation really like in Bangkok now?

Hi,

I am in London (UK) and planning to visit Bangkok in May for Protected content as I will be doing an Asia trip.
I would like to know how are the tenions in Bangkok and if it really impacts life of people living and visiting.
I know that sometimes from Abroad things seems more scary than they are. Please let me know.
If some of you guys are happy to show me around during my stay would love to and will return the same if you come to London.
