Getting a driving lesson w/o going thru a school? (Barcelona)

Hi all,

I am going through the fun process of getting a Spanish driving license. I already passed the writing test. Coming from the U.S., where we mostly drive an automatic car, I need to learn how to drive a manual car. Between lessons by my poor husband and the driving school, I think I am about to be ready. The problem is the teacher wants me to take 10 more classes. I am OK to take a couple more but not 10. I have been driving for decades and know that the rules are different in Spain but come on, when are the classes going to end?

I have heard that one can take a driving test without going through a school? Is that true? Has anyone here done that?
